Design Approach

From the first idea to the final result, our design approach epitomizes the creative process. We share every step with you, from conceptualization and sketching inspired by tradition and the use of modern technology, to appearance evaluation and test samples. We invite you to immerse together in the art of forging, where every detail has a story to tell.

In the workshop, where design becomes a living process, each tool begins its journey as an idea born from a synthesis of experience and inspiration. This exciting journey of transformation begins with careful sketches in which the overall concept takes shape, giving axes, knives and other tools a unique look. Sometimes, in this creative process, we are inspired by ancient techniques, including the use of a die-cutting machine.

Starts With a Sketch

In the abode of blacksmithing traditions, I find inspiration in the use of classic techniques such as the culman. These ancient techniques become not only tools, but also a source of uniqueness that gives a special character to my designs.

The process then often evolves to the prototyping stage, where 3D programs and 3D printing become indispensable tools. The evaluation of the appearance and composition of the product becomes the final chord before the creation of test samples in steel and wood. In this way, our tools, being the product of careful and creative design, acquire their unique individuality and functionality.

Form Modelling

We create in 3d a polygonal model of the future product. We move the faces to achieve a perfect composition.

3D-Printing the Prototype

We produce 3D prototype printing from polymer plastics. We evaluate the proportions of the product in life-size. Often we put such a printed axe blade on a prototype axe blade or print it on a printer. Now we know exactly what changes need to be made to the shape.

Creating Test Samples
Prototyping and 3D-Modeling

At the stage of transforming ideas into reality, we use 3D software for modeling and prototyping. These innovative tools allow us to visualize and quickly test each design of a future tool. 3D printing becomes a key link in the process of creating the first test samples. In this way, we translate our concepts into physical reality, where every curve, angle and surface emphasizes the originality and functionality of our tools.

After, we carefully evaluate the appearance, composition and overall visual style of the instrument. We make a selection of the best options for implementation, focusing on realizing our design solutions.

Design begins with precision and vision. Each handle template is meticulously crafted from paper, ensuring a perfect fit and balance for the blade. This thoughtful process lays the foundation for functional and timeless tools.

Every detail matters when creating a masterpiece. Precise measurements and clear schematics guide the crafting process, ensuring each part meets the highest standards of functionality and design.

Next, we move on to creating test pieces in steel and wood, conducting full-scale inspections, focusing on functionality, durability and aesthetics. This versatile stage combines aesthetics and practicality, ensuring that our tools are high quality and unique.

The Birth of Steel

A glowing billet is shaped under the immense power of the forge press. Sparks fly as tongs hold the red-hot steel, marking the beginning of the axe`s creation.

Opening the Core

With precise movements, the craftsman uses a special tool to pierce the axe`s eye, allowing the press to shape the essential opening with force and precision.

Shaping the Blade

The axe`s edge begins to take its final form under the rhythmic strikes of the hammer. The red-hot metal slowly transforms into a sharp and powerful tool.

Finalizing the Form

Surrounded by alternative blade designs, the newly forged axe head rests on the anvil—a testament to innovation and tradition working in harmony.

Into the Fire

Inside the glowing chamber of the furnace, axe heads are heated to extreme temperatures, ensuring durability and strength for generations to come.

Grinding for Perfection

The craftsman refines the blade on a grinder, smoothing away imperfections. Sparks cascade, highlighting the precision and care in every stroke.

Crafting the Grip

Polished oak handles are treated with natural oil, enhancing their rich texture and grain. These handles will soon meet the blades, creating a perfect match.

The Final Touch

Ivan inspects the axe with a critical eye, ensuring every detail meets the highest standard. Behind him, the workshop buzzes with the tools of craftsmanship and innovation.
